Charmie petting the horseshoe crab.
Hello, my name is Doreen and I am a stay at home schooling mom. I strive to share God's love with my children while helping them to grow in a nurturing environment. I love to create and craft with fiber arts as well as the gadgets and tools for creating. If you are reading here, come on in and see what we are working on growin'.
I know that this is a dorky to blog, but I'm feeling accomplishment so I figured I would go ahead and blog it before I loose my nerve. I'm short and high waisted so pants, especially jeans NEVER fit right. Well hardly ever fit right so I normally end up with pants either too long or too short. Petite's are not made for people like me so they are high water's and regular cut is always dusting the ground.
After making the pads I had all of these scraps. So I decided to start my scrap quilt. Here's my first block, and my first attempt at crazy quilting. I am a member of several yahoo groups for my sewing machines and one member asked a question about some stitch functions on her machine. . . She said the manufacturer said that they were for Herky Jerky Applique. I don't have her machine, but instantly knew which stitches she was referring to. I've often wondered myself what they were for. They are very scribbly. I started off with these and quickly decided to experiment with many of the other decorative stitches offered on my machine. I really enjoyed constructing this block. I am sad that I've been throwing away so many tiny scraps. I'm now have a use for them.
Here are some pads I made for a friend. I promised these pads 10 months ago when her baby was born, but I got kind of lazy and am just now getting around to making them. I will be making some more for me soon with these same fabrics. I quilted them all, as I did with my first pads, but I experimented on 2 of them with some decorative stitches from my sewing machine and really like the look. I will have to make the futures ones like this.
I've been toying with the idea of knitted undies. Fine hand knits are just so soft and snuggly. Someone told me about the joy of thongs (you know who you are) and forced me to buy one with peer pressure. After I tried that one I relized that I had nothing to fear. I could wear a thong and liked it a little actually. So I found a freebie pattern online and had some Paton's Fixation in my stash decided to play. Once again no WIPS bar. . . I started it this morning and finished it before the boy's woke from their nap.
I don't know why, but I gravitate to this office, one of the smallest rooms in my house just to hang out. I have the whole house to be in but I feel the most comfortable in here. Maybe because this room is filled with some of my "favorite things" like my yarn, and books, and fabric, and machines. . . anyway, I didn't have a comfortable chair just to sit upon in here. The desk chair is great for the computer, but not so great to knit or read in. My sewing chair is pretty straight and hard so it's no fun. I found this little circle chair at a garage sale and since it's folding, I don't have to have it out when I don't want it out! I'm trying to decide if I re-cover it, it's kind of not in-line with my decor, but the velvety fabric is soft. . . I guess I've got plenty of time to decide. It works for now as is!
I wanted some slightly different handles, but this was the best pick I could find at Joann's. I'm pleased with the outcome. Jennifer and I had to make a run to Joann's, it's becoming our tradition. I lucked out and not only found these handles, but a Rolling tote for my new machine. I was freaking out because it's quite a bit larger than a standard sewing machine and I couldn't find anything affordable, but lucky for me Joann's had totes that were going to be on sale starting on Monday, they had already set the signage so they let me have it for the sale price which happened to be 1/2 price! It's a tight squeeze but it fits! Now I just need to find some sewing/quilting/embroidery classes. . .
